TCP Presents: Should Chicago Remain a Sanctuary City?

  • Immanuel Baptist Church 1443 West Roosevelt Road Chicago, IL, 60608 United States (map)

Mayor Harold Washington declared Chicago to be a Sanctuary City in 1985, embracing immigrants seeking refuge. However, the current situation has presented a unique set of circumstances that have sparked debates within the city, including the faith community.

With over 20,000 migrants from Venezuela seeking assistance in the city, the question of how our city is able to address this humanitarian crisis while other long-term humanitarian crises have gone largely unaddressed. What is the role of the church in the midst of this? Is it possible to create a more comprehensive and coordinated response to the needs of both immigrants AND existing community members?

Join us for this timely and impactful gathering, where together, we can seek to find a way forward that upholds the values of compassion, justice, and community engagement that God calls us to.
